To provide children and young adults with the knowledge to develop important life skills, which were missed in school, in order to bridge the ever growing gap within society.
The Miss(ed)ucation of school
Kelsey is a primary school teacher, author and sports person, who aims to bridge the skill gap of children and teenagers leaving school and entering the real world. Kelsey focuses on providing you with tips, strategies and practical activities which will help you reach your desired potential with small simple steps.
Research has often shown, teenagers leave school with little practical life skills and are then left to ‘figure it out’ alone. Whilst some are fortunate to succeed and strive, many are left struggling to make sense of this thing we call ‘life’. For many people, leaving the education system and entering the real world is a real shock to the system. Now, that’s not to say the education system is broken. I believe the education system has a specific purpose, which it has continued to succeed at. So, to answer your questions, yes, I believe school education is extremely important to develop academic and social skills.
However, we mustn’t forget the importance of life skills.
We are all aware that the gap between the quote on quote ‘rich’ and the ‘poor’ continues to grow. Whether that be in relation to the opportunities provided to different groups of people, living conditions, skills sets acquired and the quality of schools accessible to them just to name a few.
If left to the ‘system’, these stats and figures will continue to rise. Instead, we have to take responsibility for our own outcomes and take action. Of course it isn't going to be an easy ride, however with the right knowledge and action, I believe a difference can be made.
